Privacy policy

Youth Action Against Poverty respects your privacy. This page explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and how we look after it.

1. Who we are

Youth Action Against Poverty (YAAP) is a youth-led national non-governmental organisation based in Aweil Town, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, South Sudan. We are responsible for the personal information you share with us through this website. If you have any question about this policy or about your information, contact us at info@yaap-ss.org or call +211929651775 / +211912904165.

2. What we collect and why

We only collect the information you choose to give us through our forms, and we use it only for the purpose of that form:

  • Donations: your name, email address, phone number (optional), the amount, the cause you chose and any message. We use these to give you a donation reference, match your payment when it arrives, thank you and send you a confirmation, and keep proper financial records. You can ask for your gift to be shown as anonymous.
  • Contact form: your name, email address, phone number (optional), subject and message, so that we can reply to you.
  • Volunteer applications: your name, email address, phone number, location, skills, availability and any message, so that we can consider your application and get in touch about volunteering.
  • Newsletter: your email address, so that we can send you stories, appeals and news from our work.

3. Payments

Donations to YAAP are paid directly by mobile money or bank transfer, quoting the reference this website gives you. Your bank card, bank account and mobile money details never pass through this website. The bank or mobile money provider you pay with handles your payment under its own terms and privacy policy.

4. Website statistics

To see how many people visit the site, we count page views and daily visitors. We do not store your IP address for this. Each visit is turned into a one-way code that changes every day and cannot be traced back to you, and these daily counts are deleted after 90 days. To protect our forms from abuse, our server also briefly limits how many requests come from the same connection.

5. Cookies and tracking

The public pages of this website do not use cookies, advertising, social media trackers or third-party analytics. Only our staff sign-in area uses a login session, for our team members.

6. Who can see your information

Your information is seen only by authorised YAAP staff who need it for the purpose you gave it, through a password-protected staff area. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with other organisations for their own marketing.

We may share information only where we must by law, or to protect the safety of a person. Our website and email are hosted on a secure server operated for YAAP.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your information only for as long as we need it for the purpose you gave it. Donation records are kept for as long as we need them for our accounts, audits and reporting to partners. Messages and volunteer applications are kept while we deal with them and for a reasonable time afterwards. Newsletter addresses are kept until you ask us to remove you.

8. How we protect it

The website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, so information you send is protected on its way to us. Access to your information is limited to staff accounts protected by passwords, and we review who has access.

9. Your choices

You can contact us at any time to:

  • ask what information we hold about you;
  • correct information that is wrong or out of date;
  • ask us to delete your information, unless we must keep a donation record for our accounts;
  • stop receiving our newsletter or any other messages from us.

Write to info@yaap-ss.org and we will respond as soon as we can.

10. Children and young people

Much of our work is with young people. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before you send us your details through this website.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our website or the way we work changes. The date below shows when it was last updated.

Last updated: 13 October 2026. Contact us with any question.
